History of The Chinese Civil War (1912-1949)
In the early 19th century, China was still ruled by a dynasty called the Manchu dynasty which had been in power for approximately 200 years.
At that time, in the southern
region of China there is a young man named Sun Yat Sen who has learned western
ideas that he learned during his time in Europe. He then founded an association
called Zonggou Dongmenghui and spread his idea of establishing a new Chinese
government to replace the supposed Manchu dynasty that no longer fit to rule
China. The organization eventually turned into a political party called
Koumintang. The Kuomintang party eventually became the ruling party over all of
China.
After successfully establishing a
Republican government in China, it was during this transitional period that the
understanding of communism brought by the Russian people began to entered China.
At that time the Chinese Communist Party founded by Chen Duxiu and Li Dazhao
had been founded. Communism in China is also getting stronger through a person
named Mao Zedong. Besides that, the nationalists who were in power led by Chiang
Kai Shek were also getting bigger and stronger. Many of the Chinese people also
began to rebel against the nationalist government which was assumed to have
failed due to many corrupt practices.
Then there was a civil war between
the nationalists led by Chiang Kai Shek and the communists led by Mao Zedong. This
war went on for years and was eventually won by the communists. The nationalist
government and its followers fled to the Formosa island or what we often know
as Taiwan. That was what made China split into two, namely the People's
Republic of China (China), and the Republic of China (Taiwan).
China assume that Taiwan is its
rebel province. But Taiwan
continues to deny that it is part of the Chinese state. China threatened Taiwan
that they would invade Taiwan to reunify China. The conflict has expanded into
a conflict between China and America because Taiwan has become an American ally
where America is a communist enemy. America
threatened China that America will attack China if Taiwan is attacked by China.
China-Taiwan and America conflict is
still continues until now. It seems that this conflict is never end. Ideological
conflicts are always exist and will always become big conflicts that cannot be
avoided.
